Table Chargers

Tutorial in how to create  your own Table Chargers.  Mix and match patterns to create your own look.

Charger plates or service plates are large plates used at full course dinners or to dress up special events like parties and weddings. Charger plates have been in use since the 19th century.

Materials Needed:

  • 1-  12" -14" disc for each place setting, I am doing 6 chargers.  I ordered 6 woodcraft discs from Amazon, but you can use cake plates from cooking sections at craft stores. Make sure your chargers are a bit wider than your plates.

  • Choose coordinating paper.  Scrapbook paper will work for 12" chargers, I am using wrapping paper.

  • Mod Podge

  • Paintbrush

  • Scissors

  • Pencil or pen

Tutorial:

Step 1-  Gather your materials

Step 2-  Trace around the disc on your chosen paper on the backside so your tracing doesn't show.

Step 3-  Cut your circle out

Step 4-  Put a generous dab of Mod Podge on your disc, brush it around evenly, make sure to go to the edges.

Step 5-  Carefully match your circle edge on one side of the disc, then carefully smooth as you adhere to your paper. If you have enough Mod Podge applied, you can gingerly aline your paper, and slide into place.

Step 6-   Smooth the surface to secure your paper.  There should no creases or bubbles.  Let dry for 2 hours, then apply a top coat of Mod Podge to seal.  It will dry clear, and you will now have a wipeable surface.  That's it!
